Cuevas del Drach and Their Great Underground Lake, Classical Music & Romantic Boat Ride

On the east coast of Majorca, the Cuevas del Drach—or “Dragon Caves”—hide a geological treasure: four chambers linked by stone passages and a gigantic underground lake, Lake Martel, one of the largest in the world.

A Maze of Marine Chambers

  • Black Cave: dark gallery dotted with fine stalactites.
  • White Cave: spacious hall where stone cascades sparkle in light tones.
  • Luis Salvador Cave: space with columns and rock curtains.
  • Frenchmen’s Cave: intimate nook with fanciful formations.

Altogether they span 2.4 km of passages, descending 25 m below the surface, sculpted by millions of years of seawater filtration.

The Majestic Lake Martel

Named after explorer Edouard Alfred Martel, this mirror of water measures 115 m long by 30 m wide. Its crystal-clear waters reflect vaults and ancient formations, creating a dreamlike domed stage.

Visit with Music & Boat Ride

The tour lasts about 1 hour and covers 1 200 m of illuminated walkways. The constant temperature (17–21 °C) and humidity (90–95 %) create a cool, magical atmosphere.

  • Classical music concert: a string quartet performs from a floating platform—10 minutes of harmonies echoing in the dim light.
  • Boat ride: after the concert, cross the lake in a rowing boat, surrounded by hanging rock formations.

Practical Information

  • Access: MA-4020 road, parking and ticket office next to the entrance.

Imprescindible!!!
